Wi-Fi Alliance® ‘Adopter Membership’ Offers Companies New Opportunities to Shape Expanding Wi-Fi Industry
AUSTIN, Texas – October 17, 2006 – The Wi-Fi Alliance today announced that it has expanded its membership offering to include a new level of membership, named “Adopter.” The new membership level is designed for companies who wish to take advantage of the insight, networking and marketing opportunities available to Wi-Fi Alliance members. The membership will be available beginning January 1, 2007.
Software developers, early-stage startups, telecom carriers, service providers and companies in emerging markets are among those expected to join the Wi-Fi Alliance as Adopter members. Participation in roadmap updates, access to final versions of market requirements documents, specifications and test plans, and eligibility to exhibit in an annual product and services showcase are among the benefits that will be extended to Adopter Members. Adopter Members will not be eligible to participate in Wi-Fi Alliance task groups or product certification.
“As Wi-Fi proliferates into an ever-widening array of new applications and devices, it’s important that we have all the right companies participating in the organization,” said Wi-Fi Alliance Managing Director Frank Hanzlik. “Our membership is larger and more diverse than ever before, and Adopter membership is a good next step to extend the benefits of Alliance membership across the industry and broaden participation.”
In addition to developing an expanded membership structure for 2007, the Wi-Fi Alliance recently reached a record number of members with the addition of TechFaith Wireless (NASDAQ: CNTF) as its 300th member. TechFaith, based in Beijing, China, is an original design manufacturer (ODM) for mobile handsets and handset application software.
