Jacob Jorgensen - Vice President, Technology and Engineering

As Vice President of Technology and Engineering, Dr. Jorgensen collaborates with leading technology companies in helping to set the technology direction for future Wi-Fi capabilities and features. He leads the Wi-Fi Alliance R&D Laboratory in Santa Clara, CA, and is responsible for technology development, certification activities, and related software tools development and operations.

Jacob supports commercial certification test services and collaborates with management in delivering organizational goals and strategic plans. He works closely with the President and CEO in representing Wi-Fi Alliance and the Wi-Fi industry to the press, governmental agencies and the broader industry. He also works with technical and marketing teams within the Wi-Fi Alliance member companies, driving industry efforts that support the mission of connecting everyone and everything, everywhere.

Previously, Jacob founded and led several venture-backed industry-leading startups in wireless communications and networking as CTO, VP engineering, and CEO, including one that went public. He has specialized in developing VoIP systems, wireless QoS, and wireless mesh networking protocols. More recently, he has focused on the optimization of TCP/IP and data communications through impaired links and the acceleration of web content through wireless infrastructure. Jacob has also contributed to the IEEE 802.16 MAC/PHY specification as a contributing engineer, and holds 17 patents in networking and wireless system architecture. He holds a B.S. degree in theoretical physics from M.I.T., where he also did graduate level research in quantum field theory, and has an M.D. degree from Columbia University.
