The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a draft Expanding Flexible Use in Mid-Band Spectrum Between 3.7 GHz and 24 GHz Notice of Inquiry (NOI). The NOI bridges the gap between low-frequency and high-frequency bands by examining the frequencies between 3.7 GHz and 24 GHz.
Austin, TX and Washington D.C. – July 14, 2017 – Wi-Fi Alliance® congratulates FCC Chairman Pai on the release of the draft “Expanding Flexible Use in Mid-Band Spectrum Between 3.7 and 24 GHz” Notice of Inquiry (NOI). With the adoption of this NOI, the FCC will take a significant step toward expanding wireless broadband connectivity for all Americans. Wi-Fi Alliance is particularly encouraged by the NOI’s focus on extending unlicensed operations to the 5.925-6.425 GHz and 6.425-7.125 GHz bands. Each day, Wi-Fi® users deploy millions of additional Wi-Fi devices, whose delivery of content and services will soon exceed the capacity of the limited amount of unlicensed spectrum available. A forward-thinking spectrum policy, such as the one outlined in the NOI, is needed to supplement that capacity for consumers, businesses, and government users who depend on Wi-Fi for their vital connectivity needs. Wi-Fi Alliance looks forward to working with the FCC on this important initiative.
