Wi-Fi Alliance Enhances Wi-Fi Certification Services for China market

BEIJING, China, September 13, 2005 -- The Wi-Fi Alliance today has named the China National Telecommunication Metrology Station (CNTMS) as a Wi-Fi certification test laboratory. A sub-unit of the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), CNTMS has been authorized by the Alliance to provide certification testing services to Wi-Fi Alliance member companies.

The Wi-Fi Alliance's testing and certification programs ensure the interoperability of WLAN products based on the IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networking (WLAN) specification. CNTMS joins a worldwide network of eight Wi-Fi Alliance Authorized Test Laboratories worldwide, which operate as independent test facilities.

A product must undergo a rigorous set of interoperability tests to achieve certified status and be authorized to carry the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ logo. This helps ensure that products from various manufacturers will interoperate successfully. Consumer and enterprise buyers look for products bearing the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ logo mark of confidence and quality.

"We are very excited about our relationship with China National Telecommunication Metrology Station of CATR," said Wi-Fi Alliance Managing Director, Frank Hanzlik. "China is a very strategic market for the wireless LAN industry, and CNTMS is a recognized leader in wireless certification services. This lab is key to enabling the growth of the Wi-Fi market in China and around the world. Our members will benefit greatly."

"We are very happy to be working with the Alliance to open the first Wi-Fi Alliance Authorized Test Laboratory in mainland China," said Wang Nan, Deputy Director of CNTMS. "As an independent third-party test house, we believe the Lab will facilitate wireless local area network deployment in China, and provide greater business opportunities for Chinese vendors."
