Wi-Fi Alliance® celebrates World Wi-Fi® Day

Austin, TX – June 20, 2021 – As we celebrate #WorldWiFiDay, Wi-Fi Alliance® reflects on the enormous role Wi-Fi® plays by delivering connectivity when and where it is needed most. With more than 16 billion Wi-Fi devices in use today, it is hard to imagine a day without Wi-Fi.

During the last year, more Wi-Fi devices were used simultaneously in homes, and Wi-Fi usage increased between 70-94% during working hours. Users relied on Wi-Fi for education, work, healthcare, and other critical necessities in their daily lives. Wi-Fi stepped up to the challenge, and will continue to be the most popular connectivity technology and deliver a majority of the world’s internet traffic. Over the past year, the Wi-Fi industry kept communities safe, informed, and connected, and continued to advance the industry with the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E. In 2021 alone, more than 338 million Wi-Fi 6E products will deliver high-performance connectivity to support our growing connectivity needs.

Wi-Fi Alliance thanks policymakers around the world who recognize the value of Wi-Fi and made critically needed 6 GHz spectrum available, thus enabling citizens access to enhanced connectivity, innovation, and socioeconomic benefits.

Let us all reflect on the central role that Wi-Fi plays in society, and hope for even more Wi-Fi in the years and decades ahead.  #ValueofWiFi #WiFiStrong
